Electrical equipment

REMOVAL

I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION

IMPORTANT To prevent the pyrotechnic components from being permanently deactivated or triggered (airbags or pretensioners), wait for at least 3 min after disconnecting the battery.
  • Disconnect the battery (see 80A, Battery, Battery: Removal - Refitting, page 80A-3) .

Electrical equipment

  • Remove the driver's front airbag (1) (see 88C, Air bag and Pretensioners, Driver's frontal airbag: Removal - Refitting, page 88C-10) .

Electrical equipment

  • Remove the steering wheel (2) (see Steering wheel: Removal - Refitting) (36A, Steering assembly).

Electrical equipment

  • Remove:
    • the bolts (3) ,
    • the cover (4) ,
    • the radio control satellite (see 86A, Radio, Radio control satellite: Removal - Refitting, page 86A- 17) ,
    • the steering column lower cover.

Electrical equipment

  • Remove the dashboard lower cover (5) on the driver's side (see Dashboard: Removal - Refitting) (57A, Interior equipment).

II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART CONCERNED

Electrical equipment

  • Disconnect the electric steering column lock connector (6) .
  • Remove the bolts (7) from the electric steering column lock by rotating them anticlockwise using a punch.

Electrical equipment

Note: To remove the electric steering column lock, it must be in the " unlocked " position.
  • Remove the electric steering column lock (8) .

REFITTING

I - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART CONCERNED

  • Refit the electric steering column lock.
Note: The electric steering column lock bolts are shearing bolts. A tightening torque of 16 N.m will cut off the bolt head.
  • Torque tighten the electric steering column lock bolts (15 N.m).
  • Connect the electric steering column lock connector.
Note: To program the electric steering column lock, the immobiliser code must be stored in the computer.

Running tests with computers borrowed from the Parts Department or from another vehicle which must then be returned is prohibited.

II - FINAL OPERATION

  • Refit:
    • the dashboard lower cover on the driver's side (see Dashboard: Removal - Refitting) (57A, Interior equipment),
    • the steering column lower cover,
    • the radio control satellite (see 86A, Radio, Radio control satellite: Removal - Refitting, page 86A- 17) ,
    • the cover,
    • the bolts,
    • the steering wheel (see Steering wheel: Removal - Refitting) (36A, Steering assembly),
    • the driver's front airbag (see 88C, Air bag and Pretensioners, Driver's frontal airbag: Removal - Refitting, page 88C-10) .
  • Connect the battery (see 80A, Battery, Battery: Removal - Refitting, page 80A-3) .
  • When replacing the steering column electric lock, carry out the necessary operations using the Diagnostic tool (see Replacement of components) (87B, Passenger compartment connection unit).
